Bae Yong Joon 'Man on Fire'

Thailand's July '09 Cosmoplitan issh is featuring Bae Yong Joon in one of its articles. Yong Joon is featured in 'Exclusive talk ~ Man on Fire'.

SarangLady shared the photos from the magazine in BYJ Thread @ soompi.

The above photos is quite different from the one that was by Cosmopolitan Korean edition that was released in May [hee, i still haven't gotten my mag which i asked my friend to buy for me because it weighs 5 kg!]

I still haven't heard from anyone what the article is all about but I'm crossing my fingers that someone will share them later.

p.s. i know what Yong Joon was wearing in the May issh of Cosmo have been posted in several baeblogs and sites but since I'm at it I'll be posting my own version ^^

LV Shoes

LV Ring

The Damier Mosaique collection revisits Louis Vuitton's Damier canvas in a modern, urban spirit. This bold ring is engraved with the iconic chequerboard pattern and the diagonal Louis Vuitton signature.

LV Belt [BYJ is wearing either of the 2]

A. In masculine Damier Graphite canvas and smooth black calf leather, this reversible belt is elegantly signed with a brushed plate buckle with the LV monogram.

B. In classic grained Epi leather and smooth black calf leather, this reversible belt is elegantly signed with a brushed plate buckle with the LV monogram. The Lv Cut Long Epi belt particularly suits formal outfits.

LV Leggings [underneath the black pants]

The current 2009 collection was made in tribute to the late American pop artist Stephen Sprouse , designed by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton.

for the photo of the shoes thanks to Josefine

Unseen TheFaceShop Photos

These set of photos came out today on KOB [Korean Offical Board]. According to polaris' post, these are unseen photos of Yong Joon's pictorial for TheFaceShop in October 2008 and early this year.

From what i'm seeing these photos are good. I wonder why TFS didn't use any of these? Honestly, I didn't find some of the print ads of TFS that nice.

Oh there's a fedora hat!
Good thing that he's not wearing it. ^^

I kinda like this set.
The TFS should have used one of these.

These two are not part of TFS pictorial but part of the Cosmopolitan photos. I got this from nagajun's blog and BOFi site. I'm including these here because their new and I like them. ^^

Cosmopolitan Photoshoot Making in YT [w/ trans]

Huge huge thanks to tomato99 for uploading in YouTube the making of Cosmopolitan photoshoot. This video originally came from the movie section of Japanese Official Board [JOB].

I love it whenever I see Yong Joon in motion. This is such a priceless video. ^^

Here's translation of the Japanese characters shown on the screen courtesy of Mariko [much thanks!]

BYJ : The photos are good...all of them...
BYJ : I feel uneasy.
Staff : No we'll be in trouble. Do you want us to go now?
BYJ : I am very ashamed.
Staff : That is exactly the image we have in mind
BYJ : Really? Do you want me to stay like this?
Staff : Ok. good.
Staff : Please smile more.
BYJ : Like this?
Photographer : Did you deliberately rolled up the pants.
Staff : Yes, that's supposed to be the style.
BYJ : How about taking like this? (Yong Joon folding the hat upwards)

and here's downloadable LINK courtesy of Mariko of BYJ thread @ soompi.com

p.s. some bae fans have noticed the tight gray pants that Yong Joon was wearing when he has the hat. when i saw the video and photos the first question that I had in mind was... boxers or briefs? *__*

credit on label

then i remember he once said that he's the kind of guy who prefers wearing briefs that boxer shorts. ^^

What the Cosmopolitan Editor Thinks of Yong Joon

I'm so happy that Joanne is back in BYJ's Quilt and sharing some important articles with us about Yong Joong.

Here's here translation of what the Cosmopolitan Editor thinks of Yong Joon.

Btw, this reminds me of what GQ Korea Editor has to say to him in 2006 after he did a photoshoot for them. It's actually a MUST READ... click HERE. ^^

note : please do not repost photo elsewhere especially in korean and japanese baesites.

[Cosmopolitan] I met Mr. BYJ. (From the editor..)
From the editor

I met Mr. BYJ. Although I had met numerous fluttering (Joanne: People who make your heart flutter) including actors, musicians, etc, because I was a former feature reporter, I did not somehow have any association with him. On an occasion of visiting him as the editor-in-chief to deliver congratulation and thought of thanks to him, who became our cover model, I expected his 'signature smile' and 'some courteous words of greetings'. However, he was very much different.

"Ah, (I heard) you became a new editor-in-chief several months ago, didn't you? Congratulations."'(Oh my goodness, How did [he know] that!) "I am glad to participate in such a good project as this." (He is good mannered too!)
"No matter what they are, there has to be story to get result. Culture, history and campaign like this too. The agony is over how shall we do to be able to show (people) so that they would be convinced with more ease. I think that we actors can do such roles." ([He has] even logic and persuasive power!)

Having interest in people he meets and attitude of having significance and sense of pride in works he had chosen, I thought that (he was) the professional after all, the best professional for that matter. According to an editor who proceeded with (shooting for the pictorial), he hasn't had any single careless expression, appearance in his outfits, and conversation, during 4 hours while shooting and interview proceeded. With such a passionate participation by him, the Cosmopolitan obtained the one of the best male cover in our history. Also the proud campaign pictorial containing messages on environment. For the best, there clearly is reason for it. I surely want to say this, although it sounds superfluous.

Clearer Photos from Cosmopolitan

PLEASE DO NOT REPOST ELSEWHERE
ESPECIALLY IN KOREAN AND JAPANESE BAE RELATED WEBSITES. Thank you. ^^

There was an article that came out yesterday that came from Korean Times with the title "How Koreans Can Learn from Japanese Production". The article is pointing out again excessive pay of Korean actors that lead to over-sized production costs that lead to poor profits. Of course the names such as Bae Yong-joon are known to receive approximately 250 million won ($ 185,800) and Song Seung-heon 70 million won ($ 52,025) per episode according to the article came out.

I was about to comment on the topic earlier in BYJ thread @ soompi. Good thing that Mariko posted earlier than me and she already said all what I wanted to say.

To save me from thinking of what to post about this topic, let me just quote what Mariko has written.

About the comparison between the pay of the actors in Korea and Japan, if you are with us a little bit longer, we discussed this before here when Fumi san talked about this on JOB. I just couldn't remember when it was. The Japanese actors are paid on a monthly basis, meaning they are on salary basis. When their popularity waned, they will still receive some kind of a royalty from their agency, meaning, their system is different from that of the Korean system.
The Japanese actors pay their social security, health insurance, etc. just like a regular employee.

About YJ getting paid more than the others, i think it is obvious that he can return the investments. However, again, he invested his payment in TWSSG which of course was discussed here several times already. He and BOF/KE are just beginning to harvest what
they had planted

About BYJ's stocks [since the topic is already income]

Feb 20, 2006.
BYJ will invest 9 billion won

The SoftBank, Korea (CEO-Moon Kyuhak) announced on 20 that it will invest to Key East(presntly Autowin Tech) which will push forward cultural content business jointly with film actor BYJ and his management company IMX(Interaactive Media Mix, CEO-Sohn Ilhyeong).

The investment in this time is the size of 13 billion won in total, BYJ will invest 9 billion, the SoftBank Ventures, a subsidiary of the SoftBank, Korea 1 billion won, SoftBank Union, 2 billion won, and IMX will invest 1 billion won. BYJ will hold 37.5 % share, becoming the biggest share holder.

This is the news came out on July 12, 2006 when KE acquired BOF under it's umbrella.

As the (Inc.) Key East, media content KOSDAQ company, decided to purchase (Inc.)BOF, management company, at 35 billion won and incorporate it as its affiliate company on 12, BYJ could get well over 20 billion won on book as a difference in evaluated value. According the the public notice material from the Key East, BYJ holds 82.44% of the (Inc.) BOF's stocks, it was revealed that he recorded difference in evaluated value at 28,855 million in number among 35 billion of receipt from taking-over.

That’s 20 billion won plus 9 billion won equals 29 billion won (29,000,000,000). Currently, BYJ’s stocks valued at 13.5 billion or 13,500,000,000 won. You do the rest of the calculation. He isn’t making much. In fact, he lost half of the original value. However, he isnt losing anything cos he is still holding on to his stocks. Btw, when he established BOF in 2004, he invested 100,000,000 Won (he earned 19,900,000,000 for selling his BOF stocks to KE). Again, that's just in papers since he invested all 20 billion to KE.

Then, how much he actually invested in cash? 100,000,000 won he invested for establishing BOF plus 9,000,000,000 won for KE for a total of 9,100,000,000 won...

Btw, he has other investments like BOFi and his restaurants. Who knows, there must be other investments as well that aren't being published.

remember he is earning billions of won in a year as an actor and endorser. plus, all those royalties from copyright business.

And I like what Tamar also posted in the thread which I agree... it's apples and oranges to compare the two.

Cosmopolitan May Issh is Sold Out!

Oh, I've been waiting for this article to be translated since I read it earlier on several baesites. Heaps of thanks to Joanne for providing the translation on BYJ's Quilt News Section.

Hmm, let's see... I'm not surprised that the 1st batch that were printed got sold out. What I want to know is how many right now are pre-ordered in Japan. Likewise, how many are getting orders from other countries.

Sometimes, I really think Yong Joon's style of not having too much of media exposure does help a lot [but fans want to see him more... but really that's not just his style]. You see whenever there's something about him going public, fans [including antis] and media tend to get excited and is always being a topic of talk. His being on the cover of Cosmopolitan May issh was even on several news including Japan which even my Japanese friend was surprise because he's not even a local artist to be included in the news.

edit : after i finished publishing this entry my friend in Japan just sent an email and said that Yong Joon was all over the Japanese TV. ^^

BYJ effect! Magazines with environment pictorials are sold out
[Nocut News]4/21/09 08:34

As cover model for Asian edition of fashion magazine, Cosmopolitan

'Yon-sama' BYJ was proud of majestic air worthy of the Hallyu star.

According to people in the business on 21, first printings of fashion magazine Cosmopolitan, where BYJ is the cover model, were all sold out. It is extremely rare happening for first printings of a magazine to be sold out without any particular supplements, so that even in publication business cannot help being surprised.

The Cosmopolitan carried BYJ's face in covers of April (typo on the article, it should be May) issue not only of Korean edition but also of those sold in entire Asian region. This magazine, being a licensed fashion magazine, has been using overseas stars as cover models all the time. It is an exceptional event for domestic star to set out as its cover model.

BYJ also shot environmental pictorials that stretch no less than 22 pages along with 14 actors from his agency, BOF. A staff at his agency hinted, "Frankly, it was not certain if Mr. BYJ was going to shoot the environmental pictorials along with other actors."

As BYJ responded to unscheduled interview for about one hour on the filming site also, giving impression of 'being professional after all'. In that interview, BYJ exposed his thoughts on environment without addition and subtraction.

By the way, BYJ and actors of BOF donated entire profits from these environmental pictorials to Korean Committee of UNEP (United Nations Environmenal Plan), an environmental organization under United Nations. The profit is planned to be used not only in supporting environmental LED lamps to domestic children's welfare facilities, but also in water purification work to improve water quality & supply drinking water in contaminated water areas in Asia.

Some Photos from May Issh of Cosmopolitan

The May issue of Cosmopolitan is now available in Korea and here are few of the pages that can be seen in this special issue with the theme of protecting the environtment wherein some talents of Boundaries of Forest posed in front of the camera for free.

Looks like the LV is their sponsor.
