So Ji Sub is Best Actor... Congratulations!

Before SS501 came into the picture [actually they've been there since 2006 i just happen to be a silent fan], So Ji Sub is known to be my 2nd best man in Korea next to Bae Yong Joon. ^_^ But he got pushed back by many notches now. But despite that, I still like him. He's not only good looking, tall and has a good physique but he also is a very good actor.

I happen to be watching SBS and KBS Drama Awards alternately last night to see how the dramas that I've watched in 2009 are fairing. I'm happy to catch a glimpse of Ji Sub accepting his award for winning the in the Best Actor category.

Congratulations to So Ji Sub for bagging the Best Acting Award [Male] for his role in 'Cain & Abel' [hee, i did blogged about C&A when it was showing as I was also part of the subbing team of WithS2].

So Ji Sub no longer with BOF

So Ji Sub's contract with BOF will end this May 18. Ji Sub was contracted by Boundaries of Forest[BOF] in December 2005 while he was still serving in the military.

There has been news lately about So Ji Sub's contract expiring but no words came out from either BOF nor Ji Sub until today. Though news about Ji Sub putting up his own agency together with best buddy Song Seung Hun still remains to be rumor.

Today BOF put a notice on So Ji Sub official korean website www.sojisub.com that BOF is managing and announced the following [thanks to haiyingqin for posting on SJS thread @ soompi] :

We feel sorry but we have to give notice about the website closure.
First of all, we appreciate your love and sincere interest
about Sojisub's activity and this website, sojisub.com.
This website has been a precious space, in which Sojisub
and a lot of fans communicate with each other so far
since we opened it with start of a teaser site in Dec, 2005.
However, according to the expiration of the contract between Sojisub
and BOF, the administration right of the website became over, too.
Therefore, it is scheduled to close all the services of sojisub.com from May 18.

I've seen it coming and honestly I'm not sad about him leaving BOF. Here let me share what I've posted in So Ji Sub thread @ soompi.

i think i was the happiest person when BOF signed SJS back in 2005 [imagine BYJ and SJS in under one roof] . I still remember how happy I was then. I think that Ji Sub's stint with BOF has been fruitful though others may think otherwise. Though he didn't have major projects right after he left the military, BOF however made sure that he'll be visible in prints and other media. He had done many CFs/endorsements, been cover of many magazines, had activities in Japan, made a movie in Japan, China and Korea and drama. He even released his own digital song and MV.

When he transferred to BOF in 2005 he brought with him some of his managers from his previous agency. So Ji Sub even said in an interview that it had been a long wait [for a drama project] but it was worth it. He may have changed his style [which others may not like] but i believe it was all part to further his career. And I believe many of us weren't disappointed.

There's been talk that he will put up his agency together with his best buddy Song Seung Hun. This has been the trend in Korea lately. I wish him and SSH the best of luck. I'm pretty sure that they'll be getting tips from their hyeong who I think has been looked up to by others as a role model [BOF consists of young and dynamic team] when forming their own agency.

With SJS no longer with BOF, I am still be giving him my 100% support. I've been his fan even before he came to BOF.

Cain & Abel's Last Two Episodes

After 'Boys Over Flowers' the only drama that I'm currently watching is 'Cain & Abel'. [though I might give 'Slingshot' a try later]. I have actually blogged about this sometime ago.

This week C&A will run its last 2 episodes and I'm already excited to know what will happen.

Has anyone ever thought that So Ji Sub and Han Ji Min will be a great couple? Honestly at first I thought that they're mismatch.


After seeing them in their first scene in the first episode of C&A my view changed immediately. They look cute together despite the difference in height and they've chemistry.

I actually just read that their role as Cho In and Young Ji might just give them best couple awards in the year-end awarding [C&A is under SBS]. Their relationship is like soul mates made for each other and that their love story is one of companionship. [hee, sounds familiar... something in the line of BoF? ^^]


Oh and their scenes together after they parted and meet again make me giddy. I love every scenes but the scenes that lingered in my memory are those in episode 16, the scene in the car when CI said something about the potato soup and especially the lightning kiss at the cafeteria.

If you haven't seen 'Cain & Abel' yet go and watch it. It's a nice fast paced drama with a lot of twists. Also, you'll surely like SJS as a charming, bright and funny Doctor Lee Cho In.

My Impression on 'Rough Cut'

'Rough Cut' was released last year but I only go to see the movie last night. Now I know why So Ji Sub and Kang Ji Hwan almost bagged all the Best New Actor for Movie awards. They're just awesome in this drama!

So Ji Sub as Gang Pae gave a solid performance. His character is full of complexity and inner conflict. Kang Ji Hwan as Soo Ta on the other hand, did good in portraying his character as a movie actor with a big attitude. KJH character i believe is less developed than that of SJS whose intense onscreen presence makes you shiver at the same time pity.

'Rough Cut' has a very interesting plot. A gangster who likes to be an actor who wants to act fighting scenes for real and an actor who acts like a gangster. The twists are good that it'll make you glued to your seat. It's fast paced, lines were simple and good action choreography.

This low budget movie was well received in Korea. It was even chosen as one of the 'Top 10 Movies in 2008' in South Korea and the top pick in the 'Writer-Selected Films of Today' chosen by a group of 100 arts writers and movie critics who came up with a list of 22 recommendations.

'Rough Cut' opened in theaters in Japan I think yesterday. Ji Sub was there to meet some fans. Kang Ji Hwan I think was in Japan last Feb 26. I hope that this will movie will have a favorable result in the box office.

Btw, there was a scene by Kang Ji Hwan that was shot in the 1st floor of Bae Yong Joon's 'Gorilla in the Kitchen'. Check that scene in this Youtube channel.

Liking 'Cain & Abel '

When the English subtitles of 'Cain & Abel' came out. I did a marathon of the drama.

Before reading what I think of C&A, let me again give you the synopsis and cast of this 9:55pm [Korean time] drama that airs every Wednesday & Thursday at SBS .

Synopsis

Cho In is a very gifted doctor who has everything that he wants whereas his older brother, Seon Woo, is jealous of all the attention that Cho In receives. Seon Woo blames his brother for taking everything good in his life away from him. Seon Woo blames Cho In for getting their father’s love, getting more recognition as a doctor, and for stealing the woman he loves.

Despite the typicals of memory loss, love triangles and illness I'm already seeing, I really believe that this drama is worth watching.

With great actors in it, wonderful cinematography and interesting plot i tend to stick with this drama until the end.

I was drawn to the cinematography of episode 1 and 2, perkiness of So Ji Sub's character and was intrigue by the evil mother.

Episodes 3 to 6, brought out the great acting of the actors. They're awesome and the story intensifies that you get hungry and wants to ask for more.

But if you're the type of person who does not want to see so many blood and gory scenes, I suggest that you just fast forward that scene. Don't worry you won't be missing much except for a few medical terms.

I think that the drama is well paced with the leads are getting sufficient screen time. The story is already entangled but it's well progressing quite well.
