I read this news on ALLKPOP and I'm really quite surprised to know that Kim Hyun Joong is included in the Top 10 Earners of 2009 based on the December 30th report of tvN ENEWS.
For a solo artist with only a 5 years experience in singing and dancing and a year in acting this is such a huge accomplishment.
1) TVXQ ₩ 127,340,000,000 (around $109.1 million US dollars)
2) Rain / Bi ₩ 62,000,000,000 (around $53.1 million US dollars)
3) Big Bang ₩ 20,000,000,000 (around $20 million US dollars)
4) Super Junior
5) Kim Hyun Joong
6) Ko Hyun Jung
7) SNSD / Girls' Generation
8) Lee Byung Hun
9) Yoo Jae Suk
10) Kang Ho Dong
If you noticed, the list above includes name of group idols and veteran actors and MCs. Only Rain and Hyun Joong are the solo performers. But Hyun Joong's case is still different from Rain's [and the others on the list] since he is already considered as a 'veteran' or well established actor and singer.
Year 2009 definitely has been a good year for Hyun Joong. With this good fortune, he was also able to bring SS501 along with him . Alright, I hope no one will contest to what I am going to write. SS501 is already popular [no doubt about it] but their soaring popularity now was brought about by Hyun Joong's appearance on BOF. Even the rest of the members admitted this and are grateful for this as they mentioned in some of their interviews. But Hyun Joong is not selfish. He would not take the credit alone but rather acknowledge everyone's big effort. For him his success is the success of the group and vice versa.
In 2010, with the big plans of DSP for SS501, I hope that we'll get to see not only Hyun Joong's name on the list but SS501's name as well in the list of top earners.
P.S. Again guys, let me reiterate that I'm not saying that ONLY because of Hyun Joong's own effort that SS501 is getting popular, okay? I just want to be clear of that. Each member did their own share as well. It's a collective effort. But I think that Hyun Joong has reached a more broader market since BOF was shown in many countries. And I think that it helped SS501 a lot when they decided to penetrate the Asian market.

of course, i assume this is his net earnings. DSP should have gotten a percentage of the money as his management.
oops. i misunderstood the youtube video. i guess it meant that Hyun Joong's SALES revenue as an actor, singer and model sums up to about 192 billion won.
its not his earnings! haha.
i guess its the total of all the products he's sold as a singer and model?

its impossible to earn that much money as an artist. anyway, the allkpop article stated TVXQ's earnings is 127 Billion Won. and leader comes 5th. so there.

I'm agree with you, Leizle. SS501 popularity leaps up to other level just recently, thanks to HJL's appearance in BOF. Anybody with common sense would see that, and yes all four members admitted to this.It's not easy to get to what they are now. I really hope 2010 will be a better year for SS501 with new album that will be well received by fans of all ages. So that they can stay on top of the game for a long time.

Only if other members could get some project this year. Especially YS, the poor boy has no individual activity ever.

Leizle, you're right about the popularity thing. I second on that. It's really anoying that some fans are either jealous, or unable to accept the fact that Leader/BOF made a BIG difference for SS501 popularity in 2009.
My all time fav member is Kyu, yes my sweeeeet Kyu, but I do appreciate what Leader has done to the group. The rest of members also do too, they talked about it in recent interviews, yes. Whoever protest to this fact needs to check their brain, and please don't call themselves TripleS, since they don't know anything about SS501 or ever listen to the boys.
It was Bi/Rain that brought me to kpop...watched WGM that's where I learn about and fell in love with SS501 esp sweet Kyu..Didn't get to watch BOF not until in May but didn't want to watch it till the end bec I was heart broken Jihoo did not get the girl though I have watch Taiwan, Japan & the anime version first before Korean but I still want JIhoo to get the girl.
I second that, SS501 is already popular, but hyunjoong really have the biggest share to bring them to another level of popularity
from what i know, hyun joong got the highest pay in bof, more than hye sun and minho. Though he and minho considered new, HJ is an popular artist even before BOF(thx to ss501 and wgm) And i have read his part/scenes more than minho.
He got alot from his CF, total 5 cf: tonymoly, anycall samsung series, hotsun, DK, mvio.
And from what i have read, his value sell for an cf is in number 7 among all artist. (june 2009). I am sure now his cf rate is higher, because he became more popular too.
Not surprised me he got number 5. I just hope he got fair payment from DSP.
He is richie rich now, that is why he could help rebirth cost production with his own money. Hem this is a good sign, if could help ss501 album, it means he got his salary quite fairly, because DSP give amount he deserved to received.
Congrats to leader for the 5th earning! He really deserves this or more than this considering his all efforts and hardships. No one can deny he brought the status of what the ss501 is enjoying now. Without him, it couldn't be possible. Go, go leader towards the universe star!!! Will keep supporting you!
I totally agree with your observation Liezle... good thing HJL is selfless & understands that although it seems he is the most popular among our SS501 men, he remains humble... sharing his blessing will give him much more blessings... hope all these fame & fortune doesn't get to his head & may he remain our humble & adorable HJL :)

SS501 has been already famous but recent successful activities around Asia depend on leader's popularity of Jihoo sabae image coz many oversea fans fall from him and then love all members with their own talents,it can not be refused.
Now I am a truthfully SS501 fan and I don't want to comment like this but I'm really sorry for that some few fans make -ve things on leader popularity and get much time in some group variety shows.

100% I agree with you and KHJ is a whole hearted, very hardworking men that's why everybody loves him so much and he share his blessing for everybody.
he got paid heaps cause after the popularity of BOF, everyone wanted to hear "because i'm stupid" by SS501.and on top of that, he received heaps of endorsements which is where he makes most of his money from...:)
but i would have loved to know how much he actually made, what a shame
